Preschool Program

We believe…
Children should be allowed to experience childhood. Every child wants to learn and is curious about his/her world. At Mt. Airy Daycare & Learning Center we believe in enhancing each child’s innate sense of wonder by incorporating time for socialization, self-discovery, and meaningful learning. We encourage children to ask questions, problem-solve, and make decisions. Children learn through play and are given many opportunities to engage in play.

Children should be given opportunities to express himself/herself in a creative and constructive manner through a range of choices in an accepting and positive environment. Our classrooms and activities are organized to bring all components of learning together where children have opportunities to work and play together in many ways. Our educators are well-trained, loving teachers who strive to teach the whole child.

This is the beginning of an amazing adventure for every child and family!
Our Preschool programs operate from September through May. A child can be registered in one of our Preschool programs based on the age and needs of the family. We offer preschool programs for children ages two through five years. There is a variety of classes available ranging from two mornings to five days per week.

2024-2025 Fall Tuition Rates

Preschool 2’s

*Should be 2 on or before September 1, 2024.  Two year-olds do not need to be toilet trained.

Preschool 3’s

*Must be 3 on or before September 1, 2024. Three year-olds must be toilet trained.

Preschool 3’s and 4’s (Extended Day Preschool)

*The Extended Day Preschool Class will be held 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM Monday-Friday.

*Children must be 3 or 4 on or before September 1, 2024.  Three and Four year-olds must be toilet trained.

Preschool 4’s

*Must be 4 on or before September 1, 2024.  Four year-olds must be toilet trained.

Annual Registration

There is a $65 annual non-refundable registration fee for all children in our Preschool and School Age programs.   Registration continues throughout the year and children are registered on a first-come, first-serve basis.  We welcome you and your child to come and tour the center.  This is a great opportunity for your child to join in the fun and get some exposure to our learning environment.  More information about our registration process is on our home page.

Curriculum and Assessment

The Creative Curriculum®, GOLD® by Teaching Strategies, LLC

• MSDE approved curriculum and assessment
• Play-based curriculum that incorporates all domains of learning based on children’s interests and needs.

Handwriting Without Tears is used to supplement The Creative Curriculum®

The teachers implement developmentally appropriate practices that encourage and support children to learn through play and self-discovery.  A wide range of age-appropriate materials are provided to allow for the children to create, experiment, and discover.

Assessment is ongoing and Parent/Teacher Conferences are held in the Fall and in the Spring.

Accreditation and Maryland Excels
Maryland Schools Department of Education (MSDE)

Mt. Airy Daycare and Learning Center, Inc. is MSDE Accredited, an achievement that represents a commitment from our dedicated and knowledgeable staff to provide the best possible learning environment for the children and families we serve.

The accreditation process involves a program review, self-appraisal studies, improvement plans, and site visits from MSDE validators.  Accredited programs are required to maintain the standards set forth in the validation process and supply documentation that all expectations have been fully met or there is a plan in place for continued improvement.

Our school participates in the Maryland Excels program.   We meet all of the criteria to be published at a level 5.  This is the highest level.

Licensing

MADLC is licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), Office of Child Care Administration (OCC).  We meet or exceed all guidelines as established by OCC to keep children safe and healthy in our care.  Our Preschool 3's program is licensed as an educational program.  Our goal for next year is to also be licensed as an educational program in our Preschool 4's classes as well.
