Children should be allowed to experience childhood. Every child wants to learn and is curious about his/her world. At Mt. Airy Daycare & Learning Center we believe in enhancing each child’s innate sense of wonder by incorporating time for socialization, self-discovery, and meaningful learning. We encourage children to ask questions, problem-solve, and make decisions. Children learn through play and are given many opportunities to engage in play.

Children should have opportunities to be creative and expressive in their own way. Every child is given opportunities to express himself/herself in a creative and constructive manner through a range of choices in an accepting and positive environment. Our classrooms and activities are organized to bring all components of learning together where children have opportunities to work and play together in many ways. Our educators are well-trained, loving teachers who strive to teach the whole child.

Our Preschool Program with extended care is for children ages three through five years. A child can be registered for (2) to five (5) days per week, scheduled on the same days of each week. A child can attend between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Summer hours are 7:30 am to 5:30 pm)

Our Preschool program with extended care (all year long) includes the educational components of our preschool programs with care in the mornings and afternoons 12 months a year.
Preschool 3’s and 4’s (Extended Day Preschool)
*The Extended Day Preschool Class will be held 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM Monday-Friday.
*Children must be 3 or 4 on or before September 1, 2023. Three and Four year-olds must be toilet trained.

Curriculum and Assessment
Play-based curriculum that incorporates all domains of learning based on children’s interests and needs.
The teachers implement developmentally appropriate practices that encourage and support children to learn through play and self-discovery. A wide range of age-appropriate materials are provided to allow for the children to create, experiment, and discover.
Assessment is ongoing and Parent/Teacher Conferences are held in the Fall and in the Spring.
Accreditation
Maryland Schools Department of Education (MSDE)
Mt. Airy Daycare and Learning Center, Inc. is MSDE Accredited, an achievement that represents a commitment from our dedicated and knowledgeable staff to provide the best possible learning environment for the children and families we serve.
The accreditation process involves a program review, self-appraisal studies, an improvement plan, and site visits from MSDE validators. Accredited programs are required to maintain the standards set forth in the validation process and supply documentation that all expectations have been fully met or there is a plan in place for continued improvement.

Licensing
MADLC is licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education, Office of Child Care Administration (OCC). We meet or exceed all guidelines as established by OCC to keep children safe and healthy in our care.
