We believe…

building a child’s self-confidence and sense of self is key to success in school and life.  Our teachers work to build each child’s self-esteem and encourage successful social interaction. As children build relationships and have opportunities to expand on their play, their vocabulary increases, their conversations become more complex, and their sense of self-worth grows exponentially.

We believe…

the learning experiences that children will have in our program are priceless and will carry them far in life. With a balanced schedule of large and small groups, indoor and outdoor activity, and daily self-help routines, each child is ready to enter school and become a life-long learner.

We know…
providing a quality program requires that our teaching staff stays informed and knowledgeable about child development and current trends in Early Childhood Education.  Although regulations require that teaching staff complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually, many of our staff members exceed this requirement.  The center encourages our staff to grow and develop professionally by providing onsite training opportunities, making quality training available that is relevant to the needs of the staff and center.

We also…

have incorporated into our program additional training that promotes best practices and parallels with Maryland Public Schools are Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR) and Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learners (SEFEL or CSEFEL).  MMSR is a 54-hour training course that extends over a nine-month period, guiding and educating staff as to how to use Work Sampling System, an observation-based assessment tool.

As required by OCC, all staff members complete and maintain the Basic First Aid training and Pediatric Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications.  The staff follows the guidelines and stays current with the regulations.

All Mt. Airy Daycare and Learning Center staff participate in the Maryland State Credential program.

Each employee of Mt. Airy Daycare and Learning Center, Inc. is a member of the Maryland State Child Care Association and the National Child Care Association, state and nationally sponsored organizations that advocate for children, families, and caregivers in the early childhood education field.
